Maersk is launching a standalone seasonal Transpacific service connecting Vietnam and South Korea to the US West Coast.
The TPX loop will be the Danish carriers only standalone service on the trade as all of its other transpacific capacity is being supplied within the Gemini Cooperation alongside Hapag-Lloyd.
The seasonal line will follow a short rotation covering Cai Mep, Busan, Long Beach, Cai Mep, with the inaugural eastbound sailing expected to be performed by the 4,395 teu REN JIAN 16 from Cai Mep on 9 June. According to the carrier, the service is due to be closed at the of Q3. A full round trip is set to be completed in 49 days. To achieve a weekly frequency the service should be provided with seven containerships, but only four ships of around 4,500 teu have been nominated so far.
The new loop inherits its TPX commercial tag from a previous Maersk Transpacific line that was shut down at the ning of last year. That earlier TPX, however, had a different scope and size, connecting Asia to Alaska with 2,500?,700 teu vessels.
