Premier Alliance announced this week that it is modifying three (out of four) direct services it offers on the Asia to US East Coast trade. The partners aim to improve "connectivity from South East Asia to the North American East Coast," resulting in a net addition of one call at the Vietnamese port of Cai Mep and another at Singapore to their Transpacific offerings. On the EC3 service, the Halifax call on the westbound leg is being removed and the service will now return directly from Newark to Singapore. It continues to rotate in 15 weeks with 15 x 13,800 - 14,900 teu ships, calling at Laem Chabang, Cai Mep, Singapore, Colombo, Halifax, Newark, Jacksonville, Savannah, Charleston, Norfolk, Newark, Singapore, Laem Chabang. The Halifax call is being transferred to the EC2 service as the last US port of the rotation. The ships will then return directly, however via the Cape of Good Hope, to Singapore and Cai Mep, which are also new calls in this rotation. These additions, however, come at the expense of the Xiamen call, while Busan and Manzanillo (Pan) are being transferred to EC1. EC2 will turn in 13 weeks with 13 x 11,700 - 14,000 teu ships serving Cai Mep, Yantian, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan New Port, Manzanillo (Pan), Savannah, Charleston, Norfolk, Halifax, Singapore, Cai Mep. Sailing from Cai Mep on 22 December, the 13,154 teu HMM VICTORY will be the first ship to follow the new rotation. Taking over EC2s calls at Manzanillo (Pan) and Busan, the EC1 loop will thus stop at both Panama Canal s and will include two Busan calls in its rotation, which now reads: Kaohsiung, Yantian, Shanghai, Ningbo, Busan, Newark, Norfolk, Savannah, Manzanillo (Pan), Balboa, Busan, Kaohsiung . In its revised format, the service turns in eleven weeks with 11 x 8,100 - 11,700 teu ships. The new rotation will be kicked off by the 10,081 teu HYUNDAI SATURN departing from Kaohsiung on 27 December.
