Delta SkyMiles members arebreathing a sigh of relief because the airline just confirmed thatthey will not change the requirements for earning elite status in 2026.
The Atlanta-basedcarrier announced huge changes twoyears ago that would have meant a requirement to sp $35,000 qualifyingdollars to hit Diamond status and new limits on accessing Sky Clubs. And theyeven warned that they weren? done making changes andplanned to go further.
The backlash was swift! While normally utives might stick to their guns, thinking the ?oise aroundthe edges?would pass, the carrier surely saw data along with their co-brandcredit card partner American Express that genuinely scared them ?becausethey swiftly reversed course,
? Moderating the increased requirements for status
? While keeping the ability to earn qualifying dollarsthrough non-flight activity (like card sp and booking non-flight travelthrough Delta)
? Raising the annual limits they were imposing on loungeaccess via credit card
? And introducing a new sweetener of improved lifetime elitebenefits.
Was this just a temporarymeasure, to ease everone more slowly into the changes a littlebit at a time? Delta? CEO suggested that their mistake was going toofast rather than making the changes at all. However,
? They didn? come back with these changes in 2024
? And they haven? come back with them in 2025, either.
Delta wanted to pushcustomers to sp more money ?on tickets, with their credit card partnership(where they claim ?oughly?1% ofGDP) and through other partnershps that drive higher margin revenuethan flights. They?e still doing that ?but they aren? demanding as much fromcustomers as they? planned to two years ago.
