After launching the service in February, MSC is reducing the capacity deployed on the Asia to US West Coast America / Z7S service. The carrier operates the loop as part of the Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA) with ZIM on this trade. It used to deploy a mixed fleet of seven ships of around 8,000 teu and five of 13,000 teu (one ship missing). However, the Geneva-based carrier is progressively phasing out the biggest units, uniforming down the fleet to 13 units ranging from 7,800 teu to 9,400 teu. This is resulting in an overall capacity reduction of about 18% and a weekly capacity down by 12% on the service. The rotation remains unchanged, turning in 13 weeks and serving weekly the ports of Singapore, Laem Chabang, Yantian, Haiphong, Cai Mep, Singapore, Newark, Baltimore, Norfolk, Colombo, Singapore. These adjustments align with previous service closures the carrier decided in regard of the lowering demand for Transpacific shipments.
