Geneva-based MSC will not launch the Far East ?West Coast of North America ?ustang?service, which it announced in November last year as a fifth Transpacific loop in its new standalone East West network. This ?ustang?loop would have been the only one of the five TP services to call at the American port of Portland (Oregon) and MSC is now adding Portland to the rotation of its Far East ?US West Coast ?rient?service. Due to be launched in early February, MSC did not offer any ?ustang?sailing yet. Last week the decision was taken to susp the service in response to current market conditions. MSC said that the ships inted for deployment in the ?ustang?service will be used on trades in other parts of the world. The rotation of the fifth TP loop was to include Xiamen, Yantian, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, Busan, Xiamen. The calls at both Portland and Busan (eastbound) will be added to the ?rient?service. It will continue to turn in seven weeks with six 9,200 ?11,900 teu vessels and the larger 16,616 teu MSC VICTORINE calling at Qingdao, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, Long Beach, Oakland, Portland, Busan, Qingdao. MSC already serves the ports of Vancouver and Seattle with its Far East ?West Coast of North America ?hinook?service. It will add Ningbo to the rotation of this loop to offer a direct connection between this port in Central China and the WCNA. The ?hinook?service continues to turn in eight weeks with 8 x 13,050 ?15,260 teu ships serving the ports of Cai Mep, Haiphong, Yantian, Ningbo, Shanghai, Qingdao, Busan, Seattle, Prince Rupert, Vancouver, Busan, Cai Mep. MSC? ?ustang?suspension comes at a time when ocean freight rates from Shanghai to California are under strong pressure.
