In response to increasing cargo demand on the Transpacific, MSC will next month launch an additional standalone service between South & Central China and the Californian port of Long Beach. This new ?ustang?loop will turn in seven weeks, calling at Yantian, Ningbo, Shanghai, Long Beach, Yantian. A first sailing from Yantian is planned with the 16,616 teu MSC LELLA on 13 July. Three other ships with capacities ranging from 11,000 to 15,400 teu have already been assigned to this additional Transpacific loop. MSC has announced the start of the ?ustang?service as a reinstatement. The Geneva-based carrier indeed introduced a Transpacific loop with the same brand name during the COVID pandemic. The former ?ustang?was launched in mid-October 2021 with a first sailing of the 5,018 MSC ANYA ex Shanghai directly to Long Beach. This Transpacific service later also added calls at Busan and Portland, before being closed in August 2022. By announcing the expansion of its offering between the Far East and the West Coast of North America with a new loop, MSC follows recent similar initiatives taken by Wan Hai Lines, COSCO SHIPPING and SeaLead. Contrary to these competitors however, MSC will add significantly more capacity by deploying neo-panamax ships with capacities of up to 16,600 teu.
