Maersk and MSC have resumed this week their joint Far East - USWC ¡®TP-8/Orient¡¯ service with a sailing of the 13,050 teu MSC ARIANE on 8 June from Ningbo. The re-launch also concerts SM Line as slotter, under the ¡®PS1¡¯ brand. The ¡®TP-8/Orient/PS1¡¯ service was organized in April as part of the revised offering of the 2M Vessel Sharing Agreement of Maersk and MSC on the Transpacific, whereby HMM was replaced by SM Line as new partner. The service was however temporarily susped after only two sailings as trade volumes to/from the US were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The ¡®TP-8/Orient/PS1¡¯ service turns in six weeks, calling at Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Busan, Long Beach, Oakland, Qingdao. Next week¡¯s sailing from Asia will be offered by the 11,008 teu GERNER MAERSK. Maersk and MSC int to deploy six ships in the 7,150 - 11,300 teu capacity range. The relaunch is now planned with a sailing of the 8,714 teu SAN FERNANDO from Laem Chabang on 8 August. This service resumption will also affect ZIM as slotter under the ¡®Zim New Frontier¡¯ (ZNF) brand. Maersk and MSC are not the only carriers starting to increase their capacity between Asia and the US. Only a few days after announcing their COVID-19 response for Q3, the members of THE Alliance announced that five previously cancelled Transpacific voyages were eventually reinstated in view of increasing demand. These include two Asia - USWC sailings at the of June and three voyages of the Asia - USEC ¡®EC3¡¯ service, which is temporarily combined with the ¡®EC1¡¯ service in a modified ¡®EC1¡¯ loop. Capacity on the Pacific South West will also go up in the second half of June when ZIM is to launch its Shenzhen - Los Angeles ¡®Zim eCommerce Xpress¡¯ service (ZEX) with a sailing of the 4,253 teu MELINA on 22 June from Dachan Bay. Matson is also intensifying its CLX extra sailers between Ningbo, Shanghai and Long Beach. Here, tered ships of up to 4,200 teu add to the 2,800 teu vesse
