The 2M partners Maersk and MSC have been the first carriers to announce capacity reductions on the Transpacific for the third quarter of 2020, exting the suspension of their joint South East Asia - US East Coast service ¡®TP-11/Elephant¡¯ until the of July. While THE Alliance meanwhile has yet to reveal whether its current capacity reductions will be continued into the third quarter Q3, its member carriers have already resumed the hitherto halted Asia - USWC loop ¡®PS5¡¯. The exted suspension of the 2M ¡®TP-11/Elephant¡¯, which also affects ZIM as a co-loader (under the ¡®ZIM New Frontier¡¯ or ZNF branding), is part of Maersk¡¯s and MSC¡¯s prudent approach to manage capacity amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The service will only be resumed when justified by a sufficient increase in market demand. Both the 2M Vessel Sharing Agreement and THE Alliance decided in April to temporarily susp Transpacific services to adapt to lower cargo demand as COVID-19 spread to the western world. At that time, the members of THE Alliance decided to temporarily halt their Asia - USWC loop ¡®PS5¡¯ until mid-2020 the of June. A faster-than expected demand recovery eventually prompted HapagLloyd, HMM, ONE and Yang Ming to re-launch this service last week with a departure of the 10,010 teu SEASPAN BRIGTHNESS on 27 May from Shanghai. Four sailings from China are planned for June with the 8,110 teu ONE CONTINUITY, the 8,566 teu sister vessels HYUNDAI COURAGE and HYUNDAI SPLENDOR, and the slightly smaller 6,800 teu HYUNDAI BANGKOK. The ¡®PS5¡¯ service turns in six weeks calling at Shanghai, Ningbo, Los Angeles, Busa
