CMA CGM is to launch a new Far East - USWC ¡®Golden Gate Bridge¡¯ service this week with a 27 January departure of the 3,718 teu CMA CGM AFRICA FOUR from Shanghai. The vessel was previously deployed in the Asia - USWC ¡®Seapriority Express¡¯ (SEA-X), which will be closed. The ¡®SEA-X¡¯ was launched in December as a direct service from Ningbo and Yantian to Los Angeles, catering for time-sensitive cargo at premium rates. As part of CMA CGM¡¯s offer, clients could opt for a money-back guarantee if the containers would not be available for pick up on chassis at the Fenix Marine Terminal in Los Angeles at the promised date. The last Los Angeles call is planned for 13 February with the 9,265 teu CMA CGM ELBE. It is obvious that severe port congestion at Los Angeles has made it very tricky for CMA CGM, as indeed for almost all carriers, to guarantee such on-time deliveries. Three 3,718 ¨C 5,782 teu ships of the ¡®SEA-X¡¯ fleet will be transferred to a new Transpacific loop, focusing on the Californian port of Oakland and Seattle, Washington, in the Northwestern USA. The new ¡®Golden Gate Bridge¡¯ service which has yet to be formally announced, will turn in six weeks calling at Shanghai, Yantian, Oakland, Seattle, Kaohsiung, Shanghai. In addition to the aforementioned ships, the 6,350 teu sisters APL NORWAY and APL FLORIDA have also already been earmarked to join the ¡®Golden Gate Bridge¡¯ which seems so far to be a CMA CGM operated service outside of the OCEAN All
